Technology transfer
Inclusion in EU project
- CASHMA develops mathematical and algorithmic approaches for image analysis, which are applied in the biometric sphere and in the mathematics/information methodologies for the security segment (specific reference is the biometric, the multimodal imaging and information fusion segments).
- The EleGI project, financed by means of the 1° Call of the Sixth EU Framework Programme lasts four years and is realised as part of a consortium consisting of 23 partners and 9 European countries. ELeGI has set itself the target of defining and testing an innovative, GRID-based software platform to develop learning scenarios for the next generation. This software platform is based on didactic models, which are designed on experience values and cooperative and context-related work.
- L&K: The project contains the definition and realisation of science-based and innovative didactic models and the testing of advanced technologies; Herewith the design of personalised study courses, the development of author software, the automatics content and performance listing and the search for resources, which stem from web-based, designed or not designed sources and the semantic entry are targeted.
- T&T: Transfer of the results from the “TES – Telework Education System” project in the years 2001 to 2003, funded as part of the pilot projects of the Leonardo da Vinci programme.
Activities
The foundation of the CEMSAC Consortium can be viewed as the result of the activities of the Centre of Excellence for Methods and Systems for Learning and Knowledge; the top priority aims of that Centre of Excellence were investigation, application and review of a uniform approach in the learning and knowledge segment, based on experience and induction in several areas and in accordance with various procedures. With respect to ICT technologies, CEMSAC pursued the goal of developing tools for greater effectiveness and efficiency of the methods and models, which are applied in the field of traditional training or in remote learning. In practice this is transmitted for technology transfer to different theme areas (knowledge and semantic web, software agents and artificial intelligence and technologies for cooperatives working). Jointly work was carried out on the assessment of prevalent standards for e-learning, the results of which were provided both by private persons and also by public institutions. These tools and, particular, the platforms, which were used to strengthen the investigations conducted by this research line, were supported by training measures (about 30 university lecturers were trained in the application of the Intelligent Web Teacher Platform (IWT) and all Research Line Leaders could profit from the competence of the CEMSAC staff, if what was at stake was presenting the knowledge models on the e-learning platform). This coming together of various competences led in addition to valuable and significant research initiatives, which resulted in projects with funding by the European Commission and national measures. Examples of this are the case of the Lexis Grammar Interface (ELeGI) with reference to important European research consortia.
Innovation Transfer for Members
CEMSAC has had several opportunities when cooperating with members for technology transfer, when dealing with solutions which could be applied directly in the marketplace. The members of the consortium were awarded diverse research commissions.
The L&K Pool
CEMSAC is one of the reference facilities of the Excellence Pool L&K. The L&K Pool is distinguished by its close synergy between universities (DIIMA – Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell`Informazione e Matematica Applicata dell`Universita` di Salerno – Department for Information Technology and Applied Mathematics of the University of Salerno), industrial research (CRMPA – Centro di Ricerca in Matematica Pura ed Applicata – Research Centre for Pure and Applied Mathematics; CEMSAC – Consorzio su Metodi e Sistemi per Aziende Competitive - Consortium for Methods and Systems for Competitive Companies) and the high-tech SMEs (Mathematical Models and Applications - MOMA). The pool was founded with the aim of capitalising on and using the results and prototypes from research, by participating in national and European projects. The pool is distinguished by its innovative and novel approach for Italy, which comprises the whole chain from basic research through to the marketing of the finished developed products; the whole innovative palette is covered from the basic to industrial research and from pre-competitive through to industrial development level and marketing. The Excellence Pool is seen for the South of Europe as a national development and employment model. It has established in Europe well thought of and significant projects and maintains by means of international cooperation programmes intensive scientific contact to USA and the Eastern European countries.
Further Training
CEMSAC offers – also via its Internet portal – further training courses for university graduates or specialists. The aim thereby is the brokering of subject content, which heightens the competitiveness in the job market.
