Main points

The consortium has in recent years developed methods to enhance the own economic resources and has acquired financial autonomy to a large extent.

The personnel costs have an impact only to 34% on the current State funding. The current income generated with own funds amount to 150% of the current State funding and the trend is still an upward one.

Best Practice Recognition at European level:
In 2005, the European Union, from over 100 innovative methods, awarded 11 Best Practice quality awards at European level. Hereby there were 2 Italian methods. Both were developed in AREA.

Recognition at national level:
AREA is on the list of "100 stories of good public administration", which were published by the Ministry for Public Administration and Innovation. The description is "Service Enhancement" and the topic "Methods to Support Innovation".

Brief description

AREA Science Park has been in existence since the 1970's and today belongs to the most significant Italian and also European Science and Technology Parks. The park is managed by a consortium founded in 1978, which since 2005 has belonged to the national research institutes of the Ministry for Universities and Research (MUR). The activities of the consortium can be summarised in four areas: management of the technology park, technology transfer, support of scientific education and human resources.
The main aim of the park is the support of the location: a centre of excellence, in which companies, research facilities and universities can work closely together under good conditions.
