Research and Development

HIV Research

Description

A team of immunologists, physicists, and virus und basic researchers is researching new strategies for the inhibition of the infection. The greatest challenges to be faced are the delimitation of the side effects and the struggle to overcome the resistance of the virus against drugs.
Particular attention is paid to the investigation of the mother-child infection with respect to the development of vaccines and virus-inhibiting substances for children.

Biomedicinal Technologies

Research Fields

Resulting from its interdisciplinary expertise in applying biomedical technologies, the San Raffaele Biomedicine Park meets the requirements made of a modern health system. The application fields of these technologies cover the development of diagnostics and tumour markers to the quality control of the medical equipment.
Important focal points are investigations in the field of immunotherapy, diabetes research, molecular diagnostics pre-clinical and clinical use of gene therapy.

Neurological Science

Research Fields

  • Neuropharmacology: Identification of molecules for which the new drugs should be developed
  • Neuroimmunology: Research for prevention, enhancement in the field of neurological impoverishment, for nervous diseases such as multiple scleroses

Stem Cell Research

Research Fields

5 research groups have been active since 2000 in the SCRI (Stem Cell Research Institute); these are concentrating on the possibilities of usage of stem cells in pre-clinical and clinical therapy phases.
