Main points
The Tecnopolo Tiburtino is an innovative project, which is intended, based on its organisational structure, to attract entrepreneurial ideas in the high-tech segment of the industrial and post-industrial sector. Currently, the park has 80 resident companies employing altogether 1.200 employees.
The resident companies have access to the following facilities: regeneration unit, photovoltaic unit, broadband-fibre glass cabling over the whole area, multimedia room for video conferences and training, canteen and cafeteria, cycle routes in open spaces and public and private parking.
Brief description
Tecnopolo Tiburtino covers a total area of 70 hectares and is located in the vicinity of the most important companies in the electro-technology and aerospace fields.
The area identified by the head of town planning of the City of Rome administration as a 'central urban area' lies only 4 km from the national motorway network and the motorway ring . In addition, it is optimally linked by the nearby station 'Rom Tirburtina' both to the public transit network and also has a rapid link to the international airport, Fiumicino – Ciampino, and to the private airfield Urbe.
Tecnopolo Tiburtino is today an excellence pool with over 80 companies located there and acts as a regional point of contact for support, conduct and development of initiatives in the high-tech sector.
The property development plan was continued in 2009 with the construction of new high-value building units for the siting of new ICT companies. A further increase in employment numbers of about 800 jobs is planned (in addition to the already existing 1.200), so that by the end of 2010, over 2.000 employees will have found employments in the park.
Tecnopolo Tiburtino is committed to the future merging of the networks and the existing services in order to further develop the quality and advantages of the companies located there.

Accessibility
Tecnopolo Tiburtino is located in the so-called Tiburtina Valley, which has made a name for itself in the aerospace, telecommunications, IT and electronics segments. In addition, there are continuing relations to the Roman universities La Sapienza, Tor Vergata and, Roma Tre, additionally concerning the take-up of the Roma Ricerche consortium, which is concentrated on the link between research and companies.
Technology transfer
Inclusion in EU project
- Tecnopolo SpA participates in the Net Share European project, which was approved by the European Commission as part of the framework programme ICT Policy Support Programme. The focus of attention is the formation of a European-wide network, which is intended to support companies by means of the exchange of experience via tests and the conduct of ICT solutions.
Partnership for research and technology transfer
The research and technology transfer activities are conducted via partnerships with companies and consortia (TecnoTiberis consortium, Tecnopolo di Castel Romano consortium, and Roma Ricerche, Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A consortium). These partnerships have led to various activities and projects and thereby decisively supported the regional production network in the form of financial support and innovation assistance. The TecnoTiberis consortium was founded, in particular, with the aim of realising development initiatives and technology transfer for SMEs; it was recognised as a 'regional science park' by the Latium Region and receives two important sources of financing for the support of technology transfer in Latium.

MEGALAB
MEGALAB (Metropolitan E-Government Application LABoratory) is a project which is devoted to urban infrastructure. It is funded by the Latium Region, which has been dealing with investigations of high-speed links and GRID technologies for some considerable time. MEGALAB wishes to upvalue the access to existing regional excellence infrastructure by the most important regional research institutes (ESA, INFN, CNR and the University Tor Vergas a). Tecnopolo Tiburtino was determined thereby as the initial basis for the development of the network.
